| 11. What do you think of the C6? |
| The C6 is the best Corvette ever produced but it just doesn't
hit me. The first time I saw a 53 it hit me, same with the 57,
62 and especially the 63. The first 84 I saw was also a "wow"
moment. I did not feel that with the 97 or the 05. They just don't
grab me like the previous generations. I do like the Z06 C5. I
have seen a 06 Z06 at Bloomington and while it is impressively
engineered it just doesn't crank me up with its styling. |
| 12. What advice would you offer others considering
owning a Corvette? |
| My advice to others who are considering buying a Corvette: Buy
one that was owned by a fanatic. They will have over-maintained
it and you will end up having fewer problems with it than if you
just bought one off of EBay or at a Corvette dealer. Also have
someone who owns a Corvette of the generation you are looking
to buy inspect it for you first. Try to become informed and do
most of your own maintenance and repair. Take classes on the car
from "Gurus". They are offered at most of the major
shows and are well worth the investment. |
| 13. What are your favorite Corvette magazines
and web sites? |
| My favorite Corvette magazine is Corvette Enthusiast. I have
not renewed my subscriptions to any of the others. It has the
best authors, advice columns and coverage. I of course think www.corvetteforum.com
is the best. Also great is
www.corvetteactioncenter.com and for zany/naughty Corvette-related
fun it is www.domesticmisfits.com. |
| 14. What about the hobby do you like the most? |
| I really enjoy the fellowship of other Corvette owners. They
are helpful and always willing to tell you about their passion.
I have been to Corvette shows where the best part of the entire
show was meeting other owners and hearing their stories |
| 15. Do you attend cruises and shows in your C4? |
| I try to go to Bloomington Gold and Corvettes at Carlisle each
year. I plan to attend next year's Corvette Forum Cruise In and
Mid America Funfest. I attend the Corvette Club of Battle Creek's
Spring Fest each May and try to get to the Cruise In at Rosie's
Diner on summertime Wednesday nights in Rockford, Michigan. I
have never entered a car show. |
| Summary: |
On a final note I highly recommend Corvette Central for its
service and products for Corvette parts and accessories (even
though some of them are supplied by Corvette America). For used
parts you cannot beat Jason and his wife's attention to customer
service at Vette2Vette (www.vette2vette.com).
His prices are reasonable and they are knowledgeable friendly
folks.
If you own a C4 and especially a ZR1 then it is a must to attend
Gordon Killebrew's school (www.gordonkillebrew.com).
Gordon helped develop and troubleshoot the C4 and was one of the
folks that the dealers talked with when they had problems. Chris
Petris crewed for John Greenwood, worked for Ecklers and ran his
own Corvette repair shop for years. Take his C4 class. His class
handout is a treasure trove of information (e-mail is info@corvetteclinicinc.com).
Buy a Helms service manual that is specific to your year C4 and
buy "101 Projects for your C4 Corvette 1984-1996" by
Richard Newton. A valuable resource. The Chilton manual and others
of their ilk are much too non-specific and almost worthless compared
to the Helms manual. |
Thanks Ron for your all your
help and friendliness.
